This week the IRS began sending Child Tax Credit Advanced Payments to families across the United States. In this analysis, KB Advisory Group (KB) discusses what these direct payments are and what they could mean for Atlanta regarding poverty rates and housing cost burden. By analyzing the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent Public Use Microdata Sample, KB estimates these advanced payments may reduce childhood poverty rates from 35% to 21% in the City of Atlanta and housing cost burden across the region from 47% to 31%.
